Student Achievements and Work
This section highlights each student’s academic progress and accomplishments throughout the school year. It includes homework assignments, school reports, awards, and class promotions that reflect a student’s learning, effort, and growth. Together, these records provide a snapshot of each child’s development and achievements as they advance through their educational journey.

Homework is a vital reinforcement of classroom learning. It is the responsibility of the parent to see that homework is done. Classroom teachers will assign a moderate amount of work that can be done overnight or over a weekend.
If no work is assigned, the child should still do some review or reading every night.

Reports are issued at the end of each term. For Grades 1- 6, the average of course work done during the term is entered in the column for the term. At the end of the year the three terms Course Work is averaged to produce a Year Average. The End of Year Exam score is entered and averaged with the Year Average to produce the Overall Average. The Overall Average is used to determine the type of certificate presented to the child at the Prize Giving Function in June.

Prize Giving ceremony is held annually at the end of the school year (June). At this function certificates are presented to all students at four levels – First Class Gold, Gold, Silver and Bronze – the type of certificate awarded is determined by the child’s overall average in class work and end of year exams.
A School- Leavers function is held annually for those students going on to the secondary level. At this function certificates are presented as an indication that the child has completed the primary level. Certificates are awarded in four categories - Distinction with Honours, Distinction, Credit, and Pass. Also, at this function The following awards are also given:
A Boy of the Year, Runner-Up Boy of the Year, and Girl of the Year and Runner-Up Girl of the Year are named.
The Champion Boy and Champion Girl in Sports.
Merville Rowe Music Award is presented to the Most Outstanding Student(s) in Music.
Robert Stubbs Computer Award is presented to the Top Student(s) in Computer Studies.
Dr. Spencer Award is presented to the Most All Rounded Student Boy and Girl.
Dr. Hugh Elliott Mathematics Award is presented to Most Outstanding Boy and Girl in Mathematics.
The O’Brien Brown Science award is presented to the most outstanding student in Science.
The Top PEP Award is presented to the student with the highest PEP scores.
Certificates are also presented to the winners of the various intramural house competitions during the year.

Children at Santa Prep advance from grade to grade by ability. Not by age. The child is expected to master certain skills at each grade level before he can be promoted to the next grade. The class teacher will recommend promotion or repetition of the grade in the End of Year Report.

Parents are encouraged to discuss their child’s progress and behaviour with the classroom teacher. However, any lengthy discussions should be scheduled for a time outside of the normal class hours. Discussions with the principal, if needed, may be scheduled after discussions with the class teacher. Parents visiting the school during school hours must report to the office first. Telephone calls to the class teacher should also be scheduled for times outside of class hours. Parents invading classrooms to check and compare students work IS ABSOLUTELY PROHIBITED! In November of each school year, there is a day dedicated to Parent Teacher Conferences.

Non-denominational devotions are held once per month for children in Grades 1-6. This assembly is also used to remind children of various school events, activities, rules and regulations as well as motivational talks. All students are expected to attend.
Classroom teachers will hold a short devotion in their classrooms on other days.
