School Hours, Attendance & Extra Curricular

All students are expected to attend school regularly. If a child is absent for any reason, the parent should supply a written note explaining the absence on the day the child returns to school. If you know the child will be absent, please inform the school in advance.

Attendance

All students are expected to be on time at 8:00 am. A student will be marked as late after 8:15 am. Consistent lateness will be reported to the parents with a warning. If the lateness continues the child will be suspended for one day and placed on probation pending a meeting with the parent. Any persistent lateness after the suspension will result in expulsion. It is your duty as a parent to see that the child arrives at school on time. Similarly, all students must be off the school ground by 4:00 pm. during extra lesson periods and 1:00 pm on a Friday. The only exception to this rule is a school sponsored event or function that goes beyond the 4:00pm or 1:00 pm deadlines. Habitual lateness will result in a warning, suspension and expulsion procedure. It is your responsibility as parents to see that the child arrives home safely and early.

Students’ attendance and punctuality is part of their permanent record and recorded on their reports each term. You’re part of the process. We keep communication open and decisions shared—no black boxes or surprises.

EXTRA CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

  • CHESS CLUB

    The goal of Santa Cruz Preparatory  School Chess Club is to offer a safe and fun environment for all the SCPS students who play chess. Students will enhance their cognitive thinking and strategy skills while playing chess in an interactive and competitive atmosphere.

    They will have the opportunity to demonstrate their skills by playing in inter-grade and inter-school competitions. The SCPS Chess Club meets on Fridays at 12 noon with Ms. Nembhard and Mrs. McLean.

  • 4-H CLUB

    Parents get your children enrolled in the 4-H club as this is an active and vibrant club which allows children the opportunity to explore and become exposed in various areas which will empower them to reach their full potential. Subject areas include Science, agriculture, home economics and social and environmental skills. This club is skewed towards providing experiences where children learn by doing, giving them a voice to express who they are and how they can make their lives, community and the world at large better. The main goal of this club is to create extraordinary leaders. With the guidance of the motto “To make the best better.”

  • CUB SCOUTS & BROWNIES

    The school has a registered Cub Scout Pack for boys and a Brownie Pack for girls. Students ages 7-12 years are eligible for membership. Meetings are held weekly. Interested parents can contact the office.

  • SCHOOL SAVING CLUB

    Students can make their savings contributions at school on a Thursday morning and at the end of the month the funds will be transferred to bank accounts provided by parents. It is a great way to push students to save and if they start early, it has a nice payoff later.

    Students must have an account at either NCB, Scotia, VM, JN Bank or JMMB and the information shared with the office.

  • MUSIC LESSONS

    A limited number of spaces are available for instrument lessons. These may include piano, drum, guitar, recorder and trumpet depending on the availability of the teacher.

    Students receive two lessons per week and instruction includes both theory and practical work. Instruction is given during school hours or after dismissal.

    Fees for this service are in addition to tuition fees.

    Parents interest in this service should register at the office.

  • DANCE – KHULCHA

    It is a pleasure to offer dance lessons at Santa Preparatory School. Life’s pleasures are found in the simplest of things and they make memories.

    Dance is not to be taken lightly as it teaches your child self-confidence, self-awareness, stirs creativity, and much more.

    Dance and other artistic outlets are necessary and relevant to wholesome growth and development in children. With regular attendance and practice your child will excel.

    2026-2027 Fees are $10,000 per term

  • CENTRAL TAEKWON-DO

    Taekwon-do improves flexibility, balance, posture, strength, and stamina. It improves mental health by increasing self-esteem, focus, confidence, concentration, and self-discipline. Improves muscle tone and physical condition. Improves agility and reflexes.
